The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Foundation, as part of its entrepreneurship programme, has approved the grant of N400, 000 each for 24 ex-corps members to enable them become self employed, and promised that it would do more as time goes on.
The chairman of the foundation, Mr Remi Olowude, stated this, yesterday while addressing participants at the workshop organised by the foundation for desk officers at the Raw Materials Research and Development Council hall.
Olowude, affirms the Foundation’s determination to continue to plan and execute programmes and activities that would enhance its integrity while also ensuring an NYSC Scheme that will continue to inspire service. He added that the watchers of the foundation’s activities would appreciate the little it has done to engage ex-corps members in entrepreneurship programme through its soft loan scheme.
The NYSC Foundation is established by ex-corps members and has ex-director generals and staff of the NYSC as its board members and directors for purposes of ensuring support for an NYSC Scheme.
Challenging the desk officers, the chairman said: “Your activities in the service of the Foundation have made it possible to look forward to a future that would yield dividends of increased welfare for serving corps members and a gainfully employed life for ex-participants of the Scheme.”
He, however, lamented the challenges facing the foundation and called for the establishment of a databank of subscribed members who have duly registered and paid their fees to enable the foundation plan and have means to execute such plans.
“It is a necessity for the foundation to have a databank that is error free and reliable to the minutest detail. In this connection, the Desk Officer has a crucial role to play by ensuring that the information we must have is the appropriate list of subscribed members of the Foundation who have  been duly registered by you and have paid the fee expected of them to be members.
