Group Gives Award To Young Entrepreneurs

A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Junior Achievement Nigeria (JAN), has given award to resourceful young entrepreneurs from various secondary school in Abuja.
The award which was with a cash prize ranging from N50,000, N30,000, N20,000 respectively for first, second, and third positions with a trophy each for winner was part of the group’s  annual exhibition and awards event that brings together youths from about 30 schools that runs the Junior Achievement Company Programme in Abuja.
The exhibition is aim at increasing the knowledge, skills and resources of young people who are or intend to create employment for themselves and society.  It will also provide a unique experience for student’s to turn their passion into profit and contribute to the growing economy of Nigeria.
Speaking, Mrs. Kunbi Wuraola, the Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, encouraged the participants to put in their best in life endeavours and to make a difference in their generation. “Look at your immediate environment and come up with ideas of what you can produce and sell because this generation is the generation we are looking up to for change in this country. No country in the world had the potentials, characteristics and resilience that Nigerians possessed; so make that move today,” she encouraged.
Also, the National Program Coordinator in her opening address said that the awards is an avenue for all schools running the NGO Program to compete for the company of the competition and a position to represent JA Nigeria in the upcoming International Company of the Year Competition where there will be about 18 Countries hosted in Nigeria in December 2012.
The awards won at the exhibition includes on the individual category, most committed/supportive teacher went to Mr. Madaki Awual Kyauta of GSS Kuje, most innovative school went to the same school, most profitable school went to Community Secondary School, Asokoro while Precious Agaecheta (Nobel Heights College Karu) won the Best President/CEO                award, the most organized/supportive school was given to GDSS Karu, and Best School in Presentation went MSS Maitama.
The programme affords youths to establish and run their own company. They are encouraged to set up a company by selling shares of stock, electing company officers, designing, producing and marketing a product and finally liquidating the company and paying any dividends to shareholders.
